Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream" reach Number One

Katy Perry's second album, Teenage Dream, has officially conquered the Billboard Top 200 chart. After much speculation that the disc would knock Eminem’s Recovery out of the top spot, Perry has lived up to the hype and ended the rapper’s seven-week run. According to Billboard, Perry’s record sold 192,000 copies in its first week—her best sales week to date. It also makes Perry the second female solo artist to hit Number One this year (Ke$ha’s debut went to the top of the chart in January).

Recovery is now down to Number Three on the Billboard Top 200, with Fantasia’s new disc, Back To Me, taking the second slot with 117,000 copies sold. Also in the Top 10 are Usher’s Versus at Number Four and The Devil Wears Prada’s EP, Zombie, at Number 10. As for whether Perry will remain at the top next week, Billboard says Disturbed’s new record, Asylum, is expected to sell between 120,000 and 150,000 copies this week, possibly helping it to overtake Ms. Perry.

The title track off Perry’s album, “Teenage Dream,” also captured the Number One spot on the Digital Songs chart this week, selling 259,000 copies. This is the pop star’s second Number One song on the chart this year, following the uber-popular “California Gurls,” which spent five weeks at the top earlier this summer.by: Emily Zemler
