Black Cards' debut is nearly finished

Pete Wentz has announced that his new band, Black Cards, are nearly finished with their debut album, which is being recorded in New York by Sam Hollander. Wentz posted on Twitter yesterday, “off to nyc with family tomorrow to finish black cards album, let the lil monster see the city, possibly a showcase to end the week.” We’ll give you one guess as to which New York City bar, co-owned by Wentz, will likely play host to that showcase.

Now that Wentz is “getting to the finish line with the record,” we’d like to recap what we actually know about this new band.

The singer of Black Cards is a newcomer named Bebe Rexha, whom Wentz discovered in the recording studio. He told Rolling Stone, “We have completely different influences. She’s just an awesome, natural talent.”

Craig Owens is NOT in Black Cards. Despite some rumors and speculation, Wentz confirmed a few weeks ago that Owens is not part of this group. Other than that, we still don’t know who’s playing what. “The other guys, some people may recognize, but no one who people will be like, ‘Oh My God, they got that guy???’” Wentz recently told MTV News. “As soon as we figure out everyone’s role, we’ll announce them. Expect some news in the next week or so.”

Wentz has been really influenced by Jamaican music on this disc. In a recent post to the band’s website, which houses clips from two of the group’s songs, Wentz wrote, “When FOB went on hiatus, I wasn’t really sure what to do with myself. I know I wanted to keep traveling the world with my family. We had been to Jamaica recently. I spent a lot of time hanging around the beaches and I started to get inspired again by songs like ‘Two Sevens Clash’ and ‘Warriors.’”

We’re still not sure what this all adds up to, but Wentz and crew sure do get points for knowing how to build up anticipation. We’ll keep you apprised as Wentz slowly but surely reveals more information.
